How does it work?

Why not use movies to practice your English comprehension skills? The project “Movie Your English” came to change the way you use cinema to enhance your English. Our website will guide you with activities before, during, and after each movie. All of that without spoiling your movie experience!

  • First, you select the movie you would like to watch.
    • Note 1: The frame around the movie poster indicates the level of complexity of the film and activities.
    • Note 2: The movies will be available on their respective streaming platform.
  • Then you will simply follow the steps on the page.
    • All the multiple-choice exercises are clickable and corrected on the spot.
  • There will be one activity related to the trailer/plot of the movie.
    • Watch it and select the correct plot.
      • Note for teachers: More important than being correct is being able to understand and justify why the other alternatives are incorrect. Make sure to ask your students to try that.

  • There are also vocabulary activities and games to help you understand keywords during the movie.
    • Feel free to use dictionaries and books throughout the whole process. Avoid using AI or Translators, since they will produce the language for you. The idea is for you to optimize your self-learning experience.
      • Note for teachers: Explore the follow-up questions with your students. They can help students learn even more words related to the topic and understand the movie better.
  • Now, watch the movie! And remember, HAVE FUN!
    • There are some questions to guide your understanding but remember: This project is not meant to ruin your movie experience. We are just trying to optimize your English learning while having a great time.
    • If possible, we recommend watching the movie either with subtitles in English or without subtitles – it will depend on your English level. But always try to push yourself a little.

      • Note for teachers: Explore the questions with your students before watching the movie. You might even ask them to predict the answers. It’s not a problem for them to check the questions during the movie.
  • Start by answering some interpretation questions.
    • Tip: Discuss with a friend or your teacher before actually checking your answers. This is a great way of practicing your speaking skills too.
      • Note for teachers: Explore the follow-up questions with your students. Make sure to ask questions directly related to the movie to check their understanding and reporting skills.

  • Pay special attention to the writing activity at the end. This is your chance to express yourself in English!
    • Write a text answering the suggested question, fill in your name and your teacher’s name. Click “submit” when you are done. Your teacher will receive your text via email.
      • Note: If you don’t have a teacher associated with us, fill in your own email, and you will receive the corrections and feedback directly.
  • Are you an English teacher? Contact us to schedule a free training session!  After the meeting, we can register your email into our system! It will be a pleasure to meet you.

That’s all! Now click here to choose a movie!
